Definition
- BASF SE, based in Ludwigshafen, Germany, is the largest chemical company in the world. Having discontinued its consumer product lines in the 1990s—and having never generated the level of household brand names as did competitors like DuPont—BASF isn't well known to the public even in Germany, but it consists of 160 subsidiaries and joint ventures, with more than 150 production sites in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
