Bruno Latour

Definition

  • Bruno Latour (1947–) is a French sociologist, philosopher, Bible scholar, anthropologist, and scientist; one of the founders of actor-network theory; and among the most unconventional thinkers of the past century. With his creative approaches to the collective production of knowledge, technology, metaphysics, and ecology, his work not only transcended the boundary between social and natural sciences but also provided a defining impulse to the discourse on the interaction of society, knowledge, and time in a world that, in his view, was never “modern.” Latour is one of the most cited authors in the social sciences.
