  • With the passage of the National School Lunch Act in 1946, the U.S. government began to provide funding and assistance to states to establish and maintain nonprofit school lunch programs. The passage of the Child Nutrition Act in 1966 expanded the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and authorized funding for a 2-year School Breakfast Program (SBP) pilot.
