  • Department whose job it is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners of the United States, to improve their working conditions, and to advance their opportunities for profitable employment. The department deals with wide-ranging and significant areas of workers' well-being, including unemployment insurance and workers' compensation, minimum wages and overtime pay, occupational health and safety, discrimination in employment, protection of pension rights, job training, and the right to free collective bargaining.
