- Fatima Meer has for five decades been the foremost Indian South African woman anti-apartheid activist. She was active in the 1946 Indian Passive Resistance Campaign, the Congress Alliance and its Defiance Campaign, the Federation of South African Women, and the Black Consciousness Movement.
