Horatio Lord Nelson
Definition
- British admiral For British schoolchildren, and more particularly English schoolchildren, Horatio Nelson remains amongst the foremost of heroic leaders. He ranked ninth in the “Great Britons” competition held by the BBC in December 2002 with 49,000 votes (3 percent of the total), with his leadership and bravery his most popular aspects; indeed only Winston Churchill—the eventual winner—outshone Nelson in the voters' eyes when it came to leadership.
