Definition
- Sudan is a north African country that, until the secession of South Sudan, consisted of both Arab Muslims and native African animists and Christians. With the secession of South Sudan in 2011, the remaining country—officially the Republic of the Sudan (and informally North Sudan)—became overwhelmingly Muslim and Arab.
