aerobics
Definition
- Aerobics and similar kinds of ‘exercise to music’ physical activities emerged in the 1970s, popularized particularly through the Jane Fonda ‘workout’ video. The vast majority of aerobics participants are female and while competitive and sport-like aerobics events exist (sport, definition of), it is largely as part of the development of a broader fitness industry that sociologists of sport have analysed aerobics.
