Concept information
Preferred term
ageing
Definition
- The chronological process of growing older obviously has a biological basis: the human physique and its associated capacities change over time in a manner that is regular, even if the timing of changes varies from person to person. Sociological interest in ageing concentrates on the social expectations that we have of the elderly. [Source: The SAGE Dictionary of Sociology; Ageing]
