- BASIC NEEDS ARE THE fundamental requirements sustaining healthy development, survival, and the inherent value of human beings, or the tools necessary to achieve full personal growth. Basic needs are socially and culturally determined and can be classified as physical (nourishment and health needs), material (clothing and housing needs), and cultural (educational and service needs).
