Definition
- Also known as life sciences, the biological sciences investigate all aspects of life, from the chemicals required for life (biochemistry), biological molecules (molecular biology), cells and their organelles (cell biology) and the functioning of whole organisms and particular organs (physiology) to the relationships of organisms to each other and the abiotic environment (ecology). If there is a single unifying theme within the biological sciences, it is the concept of evolution. [Source: Encyclopedia of Environmental Change; biological sciences]
