Definition
- Black English can easily be defined as “the nonstandard English spoken by Black people in the inner city.” Black English is commonly associated with low-income Blacks (Cronnel, 1984). In abbreviated form, it is recognized as BEV (Black English Vernacular) or BE (Black English) (Labov, 1972).
