Definition
- HEMATOPOIETIC STEM CELL transplantation (HSCT) is an intensive, potentially curative therapy for patients with certain life-threatening malignant and nonmalignant diseases. Formerly known as bone marrow transplantation, the name was changed to HSCT to reflect the broadened sources of hematopoietic stem cells from bone marrow to peripheral blood and cord blood stem cells.
