communicating with the dead
Definition
- Humans relate to the dead in a variety of ways, which may or may not entail an experience of communicating with the dead. As communication is an inherently social activity, the ways in which communicating with the dead has been socially framed are addressed first, before going on to look at those cultures that provide no such frame, and finally certain experiences that are seemingly unframed.
