Definition
- The term deathwatch is defined as the period of time, typically the last 24 to 48 hours, before a condemned inmate is executed. In many U.S. states, the deathwatch period is one of “virtually solitary confinement under unmitigated solitary confinement” (Johnson, 1998, p.
