Definition
- A concept of human population change from high to low birth rates and death rates, which accompanies economic development from a rural-agrarian to an urban-industrial society. The standard model of the demographic transition is characterised by a transitional period of population growth, which results from the decline in the fertility rate lagging behind the decline in the mortality rate.
