Definition
- President Dwight Eisenhower described domino theory in a 1954 press conference on the importance of U.S. involvement in Indochina. Eisenhower, engaged in a containment strategy to limit expansionist ambitions of the Soviet Union at the height of the cold war, explained that Soviet goals of spreading communism and absorbing client states had to be countered.
