ethnic cleansing
Definition
- Ethnic cleansing is the intentional act of removing by force or threat of force any national, ethnic, religious, racial, or socioeconomically homogeneous group from a specified area of land, usually within the borders of a sovereign state, up to and including genocide. While it can be said that all genocide is ethnic cleansing, not all ethnic cleansings are genocide. [Source: The Encyclopedia of Political Science; Ethnic Cleansing]
