- Exercise is a subcategory of physical activity (an umbrella term meaning any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that leads to anexpenditure of energy above the basal level, including work and leisure) that is planned, structured, repetitive, and aims to improve or maintain to a greater or lesser extent our physical fitness.
