Definition
- The term extraterritoriality, or exterritoriality, usually denotes the exclusion of foreign nationals from the territorial jurisdiction of the host country. The concept thereby deals with functional exceptions to the Westphalian principle of territorial sovereignty—either granted by international law or agreed on bilaterally.
