Preferred term
long term care
Definition
- The provision of ongoing medical, physical and emotional support to the chronically ill, the disabled and the elderly, usually by women in the home. In turn, because they live longer, women are left unsupported in their own needs for long-term care (ageing; care in the community; hospital at home)..
