milieu therapy
Definition
- Milieu therapy is a term primarily used in psychiatry and mental health nursing to note the use of the total environment as a therapeutic agent for the purpose of promoting safety, structural security, social problem-solving, engagement, and self-management. Milieu therapy is an outgrowth of the moral treatment movement's resurgence after World War II, but it waned in popularity in response to deinstitutionalization.
