- Military rule has been quite frequent, widespread, and endemic throughout history. Sixty countries (twenty-two in Africa, nineteen in Latin America, thirteen in Asia, and six in Europe) have experienced military rule, including Egypt, Fiji, Myanmar, Libya, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Thailand.
