- Naltrexone is a medication that has been found to be efficacious in the treatment of opioid (e.g., heroin, morphine) and alcohol dependence. In 50-milligram (mg) pill form (the dose approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration [FDA]), naltrexone goes by the trade name Re Via.
