power: overview
Definition
- Power is a concept that philosophers, politicians, and scholars have discussed and tried to define for thousands of years. In the early seventh century BCE, Pittacus, a Greek statesman and military leader, noted that, “The measure of man is what he does with power.” Although most people believe that they know power when they see it or feel its effects, it is still useful to create a working definition of power and, more importantly, to explore its relevance to those who manage organizations today.
