reception theory
Definition
- Reception theory focuses on the relationship between media and receiver and considers how individual audiences use and make meaning of texts, which can be in the form of television, film, books, or other types of popular culture. The key question for reception studies is whether the audiences are seen as active or passive in their media consumption. [Source: Encyclopedia of Gender in Media; Reception Theory]
