Definition
- Shock probation, sometimes referred to as “judicial review” or “shock incarceration,” is a court disposition characterized by a brief period of incarceration followed by a period of probation, parole, or community supervision. Shock probation is often used interchangeably with “split probation;” however, the two sentences differ in at least two regards. [Source: Encyclopedia of Community Corrections; Shock Probation]
