Definition
- The thyroid gland produces thyroid hormone, an important regulator of the body's metabolism and a wide array of other functions. There are two basic forms of thyroid disease: overproduction or release of thyroid hormone (hyperthyroidism) and underproduction or release of it (hypothyroidism).
