Preferred term
tobacco cessation programs
Definition
- School nurses with middle and high school populations are in an ideal position to assist with prevention of starting smoking and promoting quitting smoking, as classroom and school-based clinic programs have reflected the highest quit rates. While approximately 17% of high school and 5% of middle school students smoke cigarettes daily, strategies to help adolescents stop smoking have at best moderate effect on prolonged cessation.
