- Verbal protocol analysis (VPA) is a method for collecting and analysing verbal data about cognitive processing. The method involves making a detailed record of a person's verbal report while they are engaged in carrying out a task, for example, doing a mental calculation, solving a problem, making a decision, or interacting with a computer.
