Concept information
Preferred term
wives of prisoners
Definition
- Criminologists rarely study or even acknowledge the wives (or domestic partners) of prisoners. However, the role of wives in the lives of their incarcerated partners has a significant bearing on how their partners do their time, whether family bonds will be maintained, and what circumstances their partners will face in the community when they are released.
