- Bernard Lawrence (Bernie) Madoff (1938–), through his firm Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC (BLMIS), orchestrated one of the largest frauds in U.S. history in a far-ranging Ponzi scheme that cost investors an estimated $65 billion. In the wake of these charges, Madoff pleaded guilty and is currently serving a prison term of 150 years at the Butner Federal Correctional Complex in North Carolina.
