Definition
- Cartoonist Cartoonist Bill Mauldin (full name William Henry Mauldin) is best known for championing the infantryman in World War II through his characters Willie and Joe, ordinary GIs thrust into combat. Willie and Joe experienced bitter cold, mud, the exhaustion of combat, stuffed-shirt officers, and rear-echelon “garret-troopers,” but they endured.
