  • A demand first articulated by civil rights activist James Forman and directed at white churches that calls for funding of black social projects as a beginning to make reparations for what African Americans endured under the institution of slavery. On May 4, 1969, black political activist James Forman strode down the aisle of New York's Riverside Church, interrupting a service, to demand a half billion dollars from white churches for black social projects as a starting point in making reparations for centuries of slavery.
