- THE CANCER RESEARCH Center of Hawaii (CRCH) was first organized in 1971 as part of the Pacific Biomedical Research Center, supported by a grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). In 1979, the CRCH was established as a freestanding independent research unit of the University of Hawaii, and in 1996 became an NCI-designated Cancer Center supported by a Cancer Center grant.
