Council of Europe media policy
Definition
- The Council of Europe (CoE)—now affiliating 46 countries—was established in 1949 to defend human rights, parliamentary democracy, and the rule of law; promote standardization of member countries' social and legal practices; and promote awareness of a European identity based on shared values. It also considers itself a guardian of democratic security as a complement to military security. [Source: Encyclopedia of Political Communication; Council of Europe, Media Policy]
