Endangered Species Act
Definition
- The Endangered Species Act (1973) provides broad protection for threatened or endangered species of fish, wildlife, and plants. The act created two categories for listing a species (threatened or endangered), provides for the protection of a species' critical habitat, outlines procedures the government must take if actions may affect a listed species, and details how a recovered species is removed from the threatened or endangered list.
