Preferred term
G77
Definition
- A coalition of developing and least developed countries (LDCs), the G77 (Group of 77) has played an important role in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) negotiations and continues to argue for the interests of these countries in the global climate change debate. While the emergence of Brazil, South Africa, India, and China (BASIC) and divergence between views of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and other groups are viewed as developments that could weaken the unity within the G77, its importance in global environmental negotiations is not likely to diminish.
