- George Herbert Walker Bush (1924–) is a retired Republican politician who served as president of the United States from 1989 to 1993. During his prolific career Bush held a number of prominent national and international political positions, including vice president under President Ronald Reagan (1981–1989) and director of Central Intelligence (1976–1977) under President Gerald Ford.
