- Hurricane Andrew made landfall near Homestead, Florida, on August 24, 1992, at approximately 5:00 A.M. as a Category 4 hurricane, which more than a decade later would be upgraded to Category 5 status on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale. Tracking toward southeast Florida, the storm made two quick passes over the Bahamas and narrowly missed making a landfall in the Florida Keys.
