- Jane Lazarre is an American novelist and autobiographer best known for her accounts of the unique ethnic and cultural experience of her family, and for the focus on motherhood in all her work. A white Jewish woman with a African American husband, Douglas Hughes White, with whom she had two sons, Adam and Khary Lazarre-White, she has written of the experience of raising her two African American sons in the 1970s and 1980s.Whiteness of WhitenessAs recounted in Beyond the Whiteness of Whiteness (1991), Lazarre's sons reject the biracial label as meaningless.
