- John J. Cleary was a renowned criminal defense attorney who successfully argued several cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, some of which dealt with Fourth Amendment issues. Cleary—along with attorney James A. Chanoux—successfully represented Condrado Almeida-Sanchez in the Almeida-Sanchez v. United States (1973) decision.
