Loving v. Virginia  

Definition

  • In 1967, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that Virginia's long-held ban on interracial marriage was unconstitutional. The court also decided that Mildred and Richard Loving, an interracial couple who had been banished from their home state of Virginia after allegedly violating the state's 1924 Racial Integrity Act, could return home.
