Definition
- Mario, Nintendo's leading man, is arguably the most recognizable playable character in video game history and has been inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records as the most prolific video game character by starring in over 116 distinct video game titles, not including remakes or rereleases. Though he started in 1981 as a nondescript barrel jumper in Donkey Kong, he quickly received his own game, teaming with brother Luigi in the 1983 Mario Bros, arcade game.
