- The National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice (NABCJ) is an organization that addresses the need for more equitable treatment of African Americans within the criminal justice system. This entry describes the purpose, historical origin, and activities of NABCJ during the past 2 decades and discusses the disproportional arrests and conviction rates between African American and Whites in the U.S. criminal justice system that led concerned African Americans to form NABCJ. Purpose and Mission NABCJ plays an active role in supporting studies, processes, laws, and judicial systems in an effort to correctly address equality issues among African Americans and other minorities in the criminal justice system, particularly with regard to inequalities or at least the human conditions that cause one to have such a perspective.
