  • The mission of the National Latina/o Psychology Association/Asociación Nacional de Psicología Latina (NLPA) is to generate and advance psychological knowledge and foster its effective application for the benefit of the Hispanic/Latino population. The NLPA mission includes the following goals: Generating and advancing psychological knowledge Fostering the effective application of psychological knowledge for the benefit of the Hispanic/Latino population Valuably contributing to the field of Latina/o psychology Promoting the educational and professional advancement of Latina/o psychologists Fostering communication with members of Latina/o communities at all levels for their mutual education Promoting an awareness and understanding of issues that Latina/o psychologists and mental health professionals might have, related to their educational and professional experiences Organized in 1979 as the National Hispanic Psychology Association, the newly renamed National Latina/o Psychology Association has experienced a recent resurgence under the leadership of current president Patricia Arredondo of Arizona State University.
