Definition
- The New Culture Movement began in 1915, and the May 4th Movement in 1919, both with strongly nationalist and anti-imperialist objectives. After the 1911 revolution that abolished the imperial regime in China, the Returning to the Ancients and Respecting Confucius Movement emerged, supported by the new northern warlord government.
