Several antineoplastic agents are among Novartis' top-selling pharmaceuticals, including Gleevec/Glivec (imatinib mesylate), used in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and gastrointestinal stromal tumors, with possible application in other types of cancer; Zometa (zoledronic acid), used in hypercalcemia of malignancy, multiple myeloma, and bone metastases; Sandostatin/Sandostatin LAR (octreotide acetate), used in acromegaly and gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors; and Femara (letrozole), used in estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer.
