Definition

  • The Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) is the federal office charged with the responsibility of promulgating policy, monitoring compliance, providing education and guidance, and assisting in quality improvement and assessment of programs pertaining to the protection of human subjects in research activities. Formerly the Office for Protection from Research Risk (OPRR), this office was renamed OHRP and was moved up in June 2000 from under the jurisdiction of the National Institutes of Health to the Office of the Secretary, within the Department of Health and Human Services.
