PATCO strike
Definition
- The August 1981 strike of the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization (PATCO) resulted in the termination of thousands of federal employees for engaging in a work stoppage. Undoubtedly the most important federal employee strike in the second half of the 20th century, it is widely regarded as the commencement of virulent attacks on the U.S. labor movement by both private and public sector employers.
